alumni golf outing sets record

Tri-State University’s 17th annual Alumni and Friends Golf Outing Friday at Zollner Golf Course bolstered the Annual Fund for Scholarships more than any of the previous outings. The fund provides financial aid for deserving TSU students.

This year’s event surpassed the Office of Alumni and Development goal of $50,000 by nearly $5,000, raising close to $13,000 more than last year’s event. One hundred ninety-two alumni, friends, and community business partners made up the 48 teams in the Florida scramble format tournament.

Hot weather prevailed for the alumni golfers, who traveled from as far as Pennsylvania and California for the outing. Fifth Third Bank sponsored a lunch for golfers, and players in morning and afternoon flights returned to Witmer Clubhouse in the evening for dinner and the awarding of prizes for shots closest to the pin, longest drive, longest putt, and other special contests.

The team of Joel Bickel, Jeff Reiniche, Mike Rogers, and John Weicht finished with a score of 53 to win the tournament, while Todd and John Stock, Scott Gruner, and Lance Krebs took second. Sarah Brown, Bob Shearer, Terry Stanley, and Liz Wall placed third.

Frank Hall, BSBA ’70, and his wife, Beth, of Hall Bros. Transportation in Orleans, Ind., stepped up as the first-ever overall event sponsors. Rita Nedele, BSASG ’73, and her husband, Chuck, sponsored the evening’s prime rib dinner.
