Tri-State University’s addition of a work study coordinator in the Office of Financial Aid will combine under one umbrella a number of efforts aimed at employing students on and off campus.
Shanna Hoogenboom, a 2006 TSU marketing graduate and former Thunder women’s basketball player, will fill that position in the fall, and will manage a database listing jobs for student workers. That list will include off-campus contractual agreements with non-profit agencies.
To place students in jobs, she will interview them to assess skills, abilities, and availability, and align those with open jobs. She will also assist Human Resources with related documentation, paperwork, and records, and develop and maintain a work-study Web page. At that site, students will have access to a listing of open positions, application procedures, and downloadable forms.
Students inquiring about attending TSU will receive in-person answers to questions regarding campus employment from Hoogenboom at open houses and other on-campus events.
The position will streamline the job search for students and the office, said Executive Director of Admission and Financial Aid, Kim Bennett. “Right now, when a student goes to apply for a work study, there are four areas (of the office) involved. The new job pulls all those into that one position,” she said.
