In a reorganization aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for Northeast Indiana residents and businesses, Tri-State University announced today that its School of Professional Studies will assume responsibilities for the TSU Technology Center and move its adult education program from the main campus to the new North Campus. The move combines TSU’s nontraditional education offerings—the Angola Evening Program and the Technology Center—under one roof.
“We are excited about this new initiative,” said Jean Deller, dean of the TSU School of Professional Studies. “For the first time, TSU will have all of its educational opportunities in this region under one roof. The consolidation will allow SPS to strengthen both programs and to provide increased educational offerings, degree programs, technical training, accelerated courses, and online programs to better serve the needs of the community and the adult learner.”
The most visible sign of the new initiative will be the addition of adult evening courses at the Technology Center. Formerly known as the Angola Evening Program, TSU’s adult education offerings began on the main campus in 1998. The move to the North Campus in November will allow for expansion of degree programs and online programs, according to David Brown, director of the North Campus.
“With our move to the ‘new’ facility, which coincides with the start of the Winter Semester, TSU’s adult students will have dedicated classrooms at the North Campus,” Brown said. Brown had been Director of the Angola Evening Program since 2001.
TSU also plans to continue providing technical training in the area of plastics and add new offerings in the area of digital process control.
“We will continue to utilize our state-of-the-art plastics equipment to provide lab-based, hands-on interactive plastics training courses,” said Denny Springer, director of continuing education. “And we are exploring new educational opportunities with the Fieldbus Foundation.”
Other educational courses—computer software, entrepreneurship, and professional development—will all continue at the North Campus, as will Four County Vocational training.
“These offerings are important to the community. We’ll continue to work closely with business and industry, listening to their needs and developing training specific to those needs,” Springer added.
Additionally, TSU North Campus will have the added resource of a director of program development. Cliff Gjertson, who has served as director of TSU Fort Wayne since 2001, becomes the new director charged with enhancing existing, and supporting new, degree and non-degree programs. He also will coordinate TSU’s expansion into new markets.
TSU also offers credit for prior learning and military experience and encourages the adult learner looking to complete their degree to call 260.665.4467 for more information.
