TSU seeks second teacher-in-residence

The Tri-State University Franks School of Education is again inviting teachers in Noble, LaGrange, Steuben, and DeKalb counties to apply for its teacher-in-residence program.

The Lilly Endowment Inc. grant will fund four successive academic-year-long teacher-in-residence programs.  This will be the second year for the teacher-in-residence program.

“We are looking forward to selecting a new teacher to participate in our teacher-in-residence program, but we will also be sad to see our current teacher-in-residence leave,” said Dr. Nancy Davis, professor and chair of the teacher-in-residence program.  “Susan Stackhouse was a wonderful addition to our department this past year.  She provided a practical extension to the conceptual framework from which we function.”

TSU has sent application packets to district superintendents within the four-county area.  Applications must be received by the Franks School of Education no later than Friday, February 24, at 3 p.m.  To apply, teachers must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a minimum BA/BS degree in education;
  • Be a tenured teacher with a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience;
  • Secure one letter of recommendation from a colleague and one letter of recommendation from his/her current principal;
  • Complete an application form including five essay questions that will speak to what the Franks School of Education is seeking in a candidate; and
  • Be interviewed by the teacher-in-residence selection committee at TSU.

The teacher selected for the program will assist with development and refinement of the Franks School of Education pre-service teacher education procedures, teach and supervise pre-service candidates, and act as a liaison to the teaching community within the four-county region covered by the grant.  In addition, the teacher will mentor and survey new TSU teacher education graduates; consult with faculty in the education school regarding the professional, pedagogical, and content needs of pre-service teacher candidates; and initiate or identify opportunities for scholarly study or work in the area of pre-service education.
