Cameron Hospital Foundation grant for lab updates

ANGOLA, Ind. - Tri-State University’s Department of Science received a $10,000 grant from the Cameron Hospital Foundation for use in updating the anatomy and physiology laboratory. The current anatomy and physiology laboratory in the Department of Science at Tri-State University is in use for courses such as animal physiology, human anatomy, and human anatomy/physiology. Through these courses, students majoring in biology, pre-med, criminal justice, forensic science, health and human sciences, psychology and others gain education of the human body, its structure and function.

The grant proposal, written by Dr. Kajal Ghoshroy, is to attain hands-on models, visual aids and computerized systems. According to Ghoshroy, experience of students in human biology laboratories will be enhanced through models, skeletons, computer generated graphics and even digital dissection techniques. New equipment will be purchased for the fall of 2006 classes.

"It gives our foundation great pleasure to award this grant to Tri-State University,” said Kirk Singer, Executive Director of the Cameron Hospital Foundation. “The primary purpose of the Cameron Hospital Foundation, in addition to funding the equipment, capital, and scholarship needs of Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, is to enhance health care in and around the Steuben County area. Through our funding of the anatomy and physiology lab upgrade, it's our hope that health-related training and education will be further enhanced at Tri-State, attracting and graduating more TSU students who will, in turn, fill the ever-growing health occupation needs of our community."

The grant will be used in conjunction with TSU appropriations for $18,655 worth of advancements in the department. In addition, Tri-State University is considering the addition of degrees in the health sciences, in particular, medical technology.  Additional funding through other grants is being sought for a feasibility study and seed money for this program.

“The Department of Science thanks the Cameron Foundation for its generous support of the upgrading of our anatomy/physiology laboratory,” said Ann Benson, Chair of TSU’s Science Department. “The new anatomical models and physiology testing equipment will be used to instruct both pre-med majors and health/physical education majors, along with other science and criminal justice majors.  We also plan to use the equipment for community health outreach education.”
