Tri-State University continues its Distinguished Speaker Series for fall 2006 by featuring Dr. Lori on Monday, Nov. 13
at 7 p.m. in Best Hall 229, with “What is it worth?” Dr. Lori is an art historian, certified fine art and antiques appraiser, and museum curator. In her program, she will conduct an appraisal of up to ten antiques selected via lottery from audience members. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Lori is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Wesleyan University and earned her Ph.D. in art history from Pennsylvania State University. She has taught art history at the Penn State University, the State University of New York, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and at the Yale University Art Gallery and is currently a faculty member at Penn State University. In addition, she has held museum positions at the Allentown Art Museum, Muhlenberg College, and the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State. She also has trained museum docents at the James A. Michener Art Museum, as well as curated exhibitions at Colgate University, the Susquehanna Art Museum, and the University of Wisconsin among others.
Dr. Lori is also a published author and columnist. Her recent book titled, Seymour Lipton: An American Sculptor, centers around Abstract Expressionism and post-war history. Dr. Lori's syndicated column on art and antiques appears in the Boca Raton News, Lancaster New Era, Trend Leader, Bucks County Herald, Times Leader, The Daily Item, Lock Haven Express, Standard-Speaker, Main Line Times, and Southeastern Antiquing and Collecting magazine.
On CBS 3 TV's "Trash or Treasure?" in Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Lori also appears on ABC WNEP TV 16's "Home & Backyard" and on Comcast CN8 TV's "Real Life", "Money Matters Today", and "Your Morning" programs from Maine to Virginia, providing appraisal and collecting tips to thousands of viewers. She reviews over 20,000 items a year. The TSU Distinguished Speaker Series resumes in February 2007 with two additional speakers: William Thourlby, TSU graduate, author of Passport to Power, and the first “Marlboro Man,” and Diane Gentry, author of Enduring Women.
