Global citizenship addressed at workshop and retreat with FACET

ANGOLA, Ind.- Tri-State University will be collaborating with Indiana University in a unique way this next month. The opportunity to conference via interactive video with faculty and students from the United Kingdom, Uganda, and Macedonia will be available for those who participate in the IU Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET) Leadership Summer Institute hosted by Tri-State University. The event, based on global citizenship, will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 19 in Best Hall 229.

During the day-long event, topics, such as educational institutions’ role in fostering students ready to embrace a diverse society, will be discussed. In addition, themes, such as global literacy and stewardship, will also be explored.

According to Dr. Ann Marie Thompson of FACET, global citizenship is a contested concept. The Summer Institute will provide participants with the opportunity to enhance their professional growth by addressing assumptions about citizenship.

Accommodations for this workshop are available at Potawatomi Inn near Angola. A FACET Retreat following the workshop will be held throughout the weekend where a concurrent session will be held on Saturday to share experiences at the Summer Institute with FACET members at the retreat. For more registration information, click here. The fee for non-FACET members will be $70 (includes staying in a shared room.) For a single room, the cost will be $25 in addition to the $70 registration fee. Space is limited.
