Nearly 200 alumni and friends joined in Tri-State University’s 16th Annual Alumni and Friends Golf Outing to raise over $42,000. The funds will be used to benefit the University’s scholarship endeavors.
According to Allen Keen, Director of Annual Giving and Regional Campaigns, this year’s attendance was one of the best in recent years.
"The University was proud to once again host a community-wide event,” said Keen. “The proceeds will benefit students pursuing a college education, which, in turn, brings money back into our community. The golf outing was a huge success and would not have been possible without the overwhelming support of local businesses and industry, as well as TSU’s alumni and friends. Their generous contributions will go a long way in ensuring our students with opportunities for lifelong learning. I would like to thank all of you – the sponsors, the community, our supporters, the golfers and the volunteers – for your generous support of our mission and for investing in the future and in the students of TSU."
The golf outing was held at Tri-State’s own Zollner Golf Course, which featured 18- holes of golf, lunch, dinner, and an award’s program.
Tri-State University would like to thank the following businesses for their support: AMI Investment Management, Jim Ingledue Construction, and Design Collaborative as eagle sponsors. American Sealants, H.E. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, ABZ Realty, Bon Appetit, and Schrader Real Estate & Auction Company (by Richard Williams) contributed as birdie sponsors. Fifth Third Bank sponsored the day’s luncheon. The dinner sponsorship was courtesy of Frank Hall & Hall Bros. Transportation.
The winning team was composed of four alumni. Bob Shearer, Liz Brown, Sarah Brown, and Justin Howard won by one stroke with a score of 55. The Jim Ingledue Construction team finished in second place at the two-flight scramble.
“Due to the increased demand in support and participation, next year’s outing will again consist of a morning and afternoon flight,” added Keen. “Each flight will be limited to 144 golfers, so early registration is advised.”

In addition to the day’s traditional events, the first annual Sig Cup Golf Tournament was played between four teams from the Kappa Sigma and Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. Kappa Sigma Fraternity won the two-day event, which started at the Alumni & Friends event held at Zollner Golf Course and finished at Glendarin Hills Golf Club. A total of $1,000 was raised to go into the winning fraternity’s scholarship fund. Plans are already underway for next year to include additional teams and fraternities.
