ANGOLA, Ind.- Tri-State University has unveiled a new program aimed at giving high achieving students the means to stand out among their classmates. TSU’s first-ever Honors Program will begin in the fall semester of 2006, giving students the opportunity to pursue a more in-depth understanding of topics in their major as well as in other areas of interest.
First-year students who have been accepted to any Tri-State program with a minimum SAT 1220 (R+M)/ACT 27 and a high school GPA of 3.75 or higher may qualify. Those students who meet the above qualifications and receive a TSU Competitive Scholarship will be granted automatic admission into the program. Students who meet the criteria, but do not receive a competitive scholarship will be admitted as space allows. The Honors Program director will review credentials of incoming freshman and will make recommendations for final approval to the Honors Program Advisory Board.
The Honors Program consists of four components: the Introduction to Honors Seminar (HNR 101), Honors Courses or Contract Courses, Enrichment Experiences, and an Honors Thesis. In order to graduate from the Honors program, these four areas must be successfully completed while maintaining a GPA of 3.50. Key benefits of being a TSU Honors Student include receiving priority registration, participating in social events sponsored by the Honors Program, and special recognition at graduation.
“TSU’s Honors Program will aid in the recruitment of quality students, the retention of our highest achieving students, and will provide higher achieving students a more diverse, fulfilling educational experience,” said Dr. Vicki Moravec, director of TSU honors program. “The program will also strengthen Tri-State’s ability to continue competing for higher-achieving students and help us differentiate ourselves from other independent colleges in Indiana.”
