A Tri-State University graduate who first gained notoriety as the original Marlboro Man in the 1950s television commercials will elaborate on the magic of image creation when he appears as the next TSU Distinguished Speaker on Monday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. in Best Hall Room 229.
William Thourlby earned his B.S. and B.A. at TSU before moving on to star in the commercials and perform in numerous television shows and movies, including TV’s “Hawaii Five-O” and the 1962 film, “The Manchurian Candidate.”
Along the way, he parlayed his image-making talents into the role of internationally respected communications consultant, acting as wardrobe counselor for three U.S. presidents and as adviser for such companies as Coca-Cola, Price Waterhouse, and Smith Barney.
Thourlby lectures at colleges and universities across the nation, and will explain some principles from his seminar, “Passport to Power: The Science of Marketing Yourself” during his TSU guest appearance.
In the seminar, described as the standard for international communication development, he will theorize that people can enhance their image and opportunities in the business and social arenas via the science of wardrobe and behavior.
He has transformed his latest book, “Women: The New Power Class,” into a seminar, and accepted an invitation to present it in China.
The Distinguished Speaker series is sponsored by the TSU Office of Academic Affairs. Contact Dr. David Finley at 260.665.4224 for more information.
