Porter appointed to Tri-State University’s Board of Trustees

Tri-State University is pleased to announce that Dr. J. Winston Porter has been named to the institution’s Board of Trustees. Porter, who is a leading environmental and management consultant, will join the 25 other individuals who serve on the board.

Porter is the president of the Waste Policy Center (WPC) in Leesburg, Virginia. The company is an independent research and consulting organization that addresses environmental management and policy issues related to both governmental and business organizations. He has received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Texas (Austin) and his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of California (Berkley). Porter is a frequent communicator on environmental matters through reports and speeches, as well as articles in numerous major newspapers, including the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

“It is the continued leadership of great men and women, like Dr. Porter, that has helped TSU achieve success,” said Dr. John Pittman, Chairman of the Board. “Porter’s background with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as well as his experience abroad in Saudi Arabia with the Bechtel Engineering and Consulting will serve as an asset to this diverse board.”

The announcement of Porter’s appointment comes on the heels of the board’s approval of a recommendation to raise the University’s capital campaign goal in the Vision for the Future capital campaign from $70 million to $90 million. Thus far, TSU has raised $65 million toward their 2009 target, which will mark the University’s 125th anniversary of its founding.
