Tri-State University continues its Distinguished Speaker Series for fall 2006 by hosting two successful speakers. The series begins on Wednesday, Oct. 4, with “Education and Globalization.” Mac McFarland, a 1963 Tri-State College alumnus, will begin his presentation at 7 p.m. in Best Hall 229. The event is free and open to the public.
McFarland, an aeronautical engineering major, will discuss how his Tri-State education served as a foundation for a long and rewarding career. He will emphasize the continuing “globalization” and its impact on the students and their future. A marketing professor at Kent State University, McFarland was first introduced to other cultures in the Air Force during the 1950’s. He later became more familiar with globalization during his career as a design engineer at Goodyear, as a private contractor for the Air Force, and as a vice-president and president at Akron Standard (now ITW Ride Quality Products).
The series continues with Dr. Lori, an art historian, certified fine art and antiques appraiser, and museum curator. In her program, “What is it worth?,” she will conduct an appraisal of up to ten antiques selected via lottery from audience members. Dr. Lori, who will also be making appearances on Treasure Seekers, Money Matters Today, and Your Morning this fall, will appear on Monday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in Best Hall 229. She is the director of the fine art and antiques resource www.DrLoriV.com and Masterpiece Technologies Inc. She reviews 20,000 items a year.
The TSU Distinguished Speaker Series resumes in February 2007 with two additional speakers.
