TSU Middle College, dual credit program

The middle college opportunity allows high school students to earn college (dual/concurrent) credit while still in high school. Begun in 2003, TSU Middle College gives you a jumpstart to the college experience. Basic information can be found below or more complete information is available in the Guidelines. Get a jumpstart on your future!

Providing educational experiences to high school age students who are:

  • First generation college students
  • Skilled at-risk students
  • College-bound students
  • For public, private, and home-schooled students
  • For mainly juniors and seniors (may begin as early as the summer following the sophomore year)

What does TSUMC offer?

  • Advanced studies
  • College credit
  • Campus setting
  • Evening courses (TSU Fort Wayne, TSU Merrillville, TSU Angola North, TSU South Bend, TSU Kendallville, and TSU Howe)
  • Morning and afternoon courses (main campus and TSU Kendallville)
  • Online courses

Both morning and afternoon classes are offered. Most students are expected to attend a half day of high school classes and a half day of TSUMC classes. Some students may enroll full time in TSUMC. 
 
Who may enroll?
Students who have passed their grade-appropriate Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress (ISTEP) test and who can provide their own transportation (if transportation is required) to Tri-State’s campus sites may enroll in TSUMC.
 
How is the cost of tuition covered?
Through partnerships with school districts, foundations, and local businesses, TSUMC intends to provide its services to students at little or no cost. However, students may be assessed a minimal fee, depending on the nature of a course. An initial registration fee of $25 is required. The current maximum course cost is $100 per credit hour. 

AP track versus Non-AP
The university will allow students who have completed the appropriate advanced placement (AP) classes in high school to take ENG 204 British Literature, MA164 Calculus II, or CH114 Chemistry II. Other AP classes may also apply.

Credits
Students who complete a TSUMC course with a grade of “C” or better will receive full credit on a Tri-State University transcript. The credit can be applied toward a Tri-State degree or may be transferred to another university. (To be certain of a credit’s applicability or transferability, check with the Tri-State Registrar.) Successful completion of a course may also count as credit at the student’s high school.

Who will teach these courses?
Tri-State University professors or fully-qualified adjunct professors will teach TSUMC courses.
