11.17 / Daniels Competes at NCAA Championship
Tri-State University junior Curt Daniels (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) competed in his first NCAA Championship hosted by St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. Daniels completed the 8k course in 27:17 and finished 262nd.
Tyler Sigl from UW-Platteville was the individual champion with a time of 24:24. New York University took the top team honors with all runners finishing in the top 40 spots and a team score of 128. Calvin College finished fourth with a score of 214.
11.10 / Daniels Advances to NCAA Championship
Tri-State University junior Curt Daniels (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) becomes the first TSU cross country runner to advance to the NCAA National Championship Meet since the Thunder became an official NCAA DIII member. Daniels ran to a 13th place finish in the Great Lakes Regional Meet hosted by Calvin College.
Daniels completed the 8k course in a time of 25:23.20 to lead the Thunder to a sixth place team finish. Next Saturday, Daniels will compete in the national meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
Tim Murray (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) completed the course in 25:51.9 and was followed by Justin Kowalski (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) at 25:51.95.
10.28 / Five TSU Men’s Cross Country Runners Named All-MIAA Second Team
The Tri-State University men’s cross country team was honored with five of the nine spots on the All-MIAA Second Team. On Saturday, senior Justin Kowalski (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) finished ninth overall and led the Thunder to a second place finish at the MIAA Championship. Kowalski has been named to the All-MIAA Second Team. Junior Curt Daniels (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North), junior Josh Hogan (Russell, Pa./Eishenhower), junior Tim Murray (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis), and sophomore Darin King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) were also selected to the All-MIAA Second Team. All five TSU runners finished within 21 seconds of each other at the MIAA Championship as the Thunder finished the championship in second place.
10.27 / TSU Men’s Cross Country Place Five in Top 15 of MIAA Championships
The Tri-State University men’s cross country team ran to a second place finish in the MIAA championship behind five top 15 finishes. The Calvin College men captured their 21st consecutive MIAA championship by taking the top five places. The Knights ran an averaged time of 25:45.5 for the 8k course. TSU averaged 26:47.4 on their way to the second place finish.
Justin Kowalski (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) was the top finisher for TSU with a time of 26:38.9 and placed ninth. Darin King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) and Curt Daniels (Huntington, Ind./Huntington) followed closely in 10th and 11th place with times of 26:40.1 and 26:43.8. Tim Murray (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) finished with a time of 26:55.0 and in 13th place. Josh Hogan (Russell, Pa./Eisenhower) rounded out TSU ‘s top five in a time of 26:59.0 and a 14th place finish.
On the women’s side, Chelsi Morey (Grand Blanc, Mich./Lake Fenton) led a short-staffed TSU team with a 28th place finish. Morey completed the 5k course in 24:57.1.
10.13 / TSU Men Sixth at Calvin Pre-Regional
The Tri-State University cross country teams competed in the Calvin Pre-Regional with the men’s team taking a sixth place finish. The TSU women only had four runners compete so they did not receive a team score. National power Calvin College took the top spots on the men’s and women’s side.
The Calvin men completed the course with an average time of 25:00. The Tri-State men took sixth with an average time of 26:12. Curt Daniels (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) led TSU in a time of 25:33 and a 16th place finish. Justin Kowalski (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) placed 32nd with a time of 26:08.
The Calvin women took the top honors with an average time of 22:05. Chelsi Morey (Grand Blanc, Mich./Lake Fenton) had the top time for TSU at 24:07.
10.06 / TSU Cross Country Participates in IWU Invitational
The Tri-State University cross country team traveled to Marion, Ind. to compete in the Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational. The men’s team placed fourth with an average time of 27:57.60. Indiana Wesleyan placed first with an average time of 27:00.20. The Tri-State women’s team only had four runners compete so they did not receive a team score.
Justin Kowalski (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) ran to a third place finish in a time of 26:48.00. Tim Murray (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) and Darin King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) placed 11th and 12th in times of 27:36.00 and 27:41.00.
Chelsi Morey (Grand Blanc, Mich./Lake Fenton) had the top score for the TSU women. Morey was 33rd and finished the 5k course in 20:58.00.
09.22 / Daniels Leads TSU to Second Place Finish in MIAA Jamboree
The Tri-State University cross country team hosted the MIAA Jamboree at Zollner Golf Course on the TSU campus. The TSU men ran to a second place finish with an average time of 27:30. The Thunder women placed seventh with an average time of 23:31. The Knights of Calvin College took the top team spots on both the men’s and women’s side.
Curt Daniels (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) paced the way for the Thunder with a seventh place finish in the time of 27:03. Tim Murray (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) rounded out the top 10 with a time of 27:19. Justin Kowalski (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka), Darin King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold), and Josh Hogan (Russell, Pa./Eisenhower) completed TSU’s scoring in 14th, 15th, and 17th respectively.
Chelsi Morey (Grand Blanc, Mich./Lake Fenton) ran a strong race for the TSU women in a time of 21:42 and placed 36th overall.
09.14 / TSU Cross Country Competes in Indiana Intercollegiates
Tri-State University competed in the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships, held at the Purdue Varsity Cross Country course. The Thunder men competed well and finished 10th out of 23 teams. The women competed as individuals and Chelsi Morey (Grand Blanc, Mich./Lake Fenton) led the way by finishing the 5k course in a time of 20:32.37.
Tim Murray (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) posted his best time of the season in the 8k run with a time of 26:20.45 for a 34th place finish out of 194 runners. Curt Daniels (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) ran to a 45th place finish with a time of 26:30.15. Justin Kowalski (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka), Darin King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold), and Josh Hogan (Russell, Pa./Eisenhower) rounded out the top five finishers for TSU in 54th, 66th, and 73rd place.
09.08 / Team Effort Leads TSU to Second Place Finish at Defiance
The Tri-State University men’s cross country team placed second at the Defiance Invitational behind a strong team performance with three runners in the top ten. Justin Kowalski (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) led the way with a fifth place finish in a time of 28:38.96. Tim Murray (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) and Josh Hogan (Russell, Pa./Eisenhower) ran to seventh and ninth place respectively. Murray crossed the line in 28:42.45 and Hogan finished at 28:53.14.
Darin King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) tallied 11 points for TSU with an 11th place finish. Curt Daniels (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) rounded out the Thunder’s scoring with a 13th place finish.
Heidelberg took the top team spot with 37 points, followed by TSU with 45. Goshen finished in third with 67 points followed by Findlay (78), Defiance (161), and Bluffton (169).
TSU had three female runners that competed as individuals. Chelsi Morey had a strong showing with a 15th place finish. Morey completed the 5k course in 21:20.93. Courtney Naveken (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) finished in a time of 24:34.33 and Kathleen Mills (Kingsville, Texas/Padua Academy) ran in a time of 25:03.29.
09.01 / Cross Country Hosts Tri-State Open
The Tri-State University men’s and women’s cross country team hosted the Tri-State Open at Zollner Golf Course. The TSU men took the top team honors with a team score of 15. The women placed third with 69 points.
TSU dominated the men’s side by taking the top five places. Curt Daniels (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) took the top individual honors with a time of 17:11. Tim Murray (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis), Justin Kowalski (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka), Darin King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold), and Josh Hogan (Russell, Pa./Eisenhower) rounded out the top five.
Chelsi Morey (Grand Blanc, Mich./Lake Fenton) has a strong showing for the Thunder in a time of 22:54. Morey took the sixth spot on the women’s side. Samantha Wieczorek of Saint Mary’s took first for the women in a time of 21:58.
