Coach San Giacomo has a team comprised of veterans and rookies, with only one senior and top-heavy on freshmen and sophomores. The talent pool is deep, but varsity players must perform more consistently this spring than they did in the fall if the golf team is to succeed in a very tough spring tournament schedule. The spring trip to Georgia will test the team early. They will play against Olglethorpe University, ranked number two in NCAA Division III. Other tournaments with quality opponents are the A.C. Eddy and Bill Gettig invitationals, with the men’s team hosting; and the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational, which features the top Division III teams in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
Players Coach San Giacomo will count on for impact are Clinton Miller, senior, and Alex Lorencz, sophomore, both of whom were named to the All-MIAA Team in the fall; and juniors Shawn Floyd, Matt Beckman, and Kyle Cramer. Jason Paff, a freshman from Cincinnati, showed promise in his first season on the varsity. A large number of sophomores and freshmen will see plenty of tournament activity in a very competitive junior varsity schedule.
