ATHLETICS >PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

Philosophy Statement

It is our belief that Tri-State University athletics, as an integral component of the campus culture, are designed to emphasize and enhance each student-athlete's total educational experience. While recognizing the value and importance of athletic participation, it is also our intent to encourage student-athletes to experience a wide range of campus involvement. Our ultimate goal is to maximize the college experience of each student-athlete while focusing on his/her primary purpose of achieving success in both academic and professional goals. It is to this end that Tri-State University believes the primary emphasis of the athletic program is on the fair and equitable experience for all participants while assisting graduates in the development of skills necessary to be successful in professional-level positions.

The goals of the Department of Athletics include but are not limited to the following:

  • To support and enhance the mission of Tri-State University.
  • To place primary emphasis on the enrichment of the athletic experience for all participants.
  • To recruit quality student-athletes who choose Tri-State University for the purpose of achieving their academic and professional goals.
  • To motivate all student-athletes to achieve excellence in the classroom.
  • To establish and demand high expectations in sportsmanship and ethical conduct from all athletic constituencies.
  • To maximize the number and quality of opportunities for student participation in intercollegiate athletics.
  • To assist student-athletes in the cultivation of community and civic responsibility.
  • To insure that programs are administered in a fair and equitable manner.
  • To encourage an appreciation for as well as a value of the diversity present on the campus of Tri-State University.
  • To provide opportunities for student-athletes to pursue experiences that will lead to skills that will enhance their success in life.
  • To insure the health and welfare of all student-athletes.
  • To offer the opportunity for all participants to pursue a competitive level of athletic excellence while maintaining the principles of amateur athletics.

Tri-State University is a member of NCAA Division III and the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. As such we support the philosophy of Division III and adhere to and abide by all rules and regulations of both organizations.
