Head Men's Coach Doyle Houser
The Tri-State University athletic department has recently named Doyle Houser head coach of the men’s track and field program and men's and women's cross country. Houser is a 1981 graduate of TSU with a degree in biology. While at TSU, Houser was named to the NAIA District 21 All-State Team and the MCC All-Conference Team. In the fall of 2007, Houser entered the TSU Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1977 cross country team.
Houser has continued to run competitively and his career highlights include a 37th place finish in the Chicago Marathon and a 95th place finish in the New York City Marathon.
After graduation from TSU, Coach Houser was a graduate assistant coach at Idaho State University, where he received his master’s degree in microbiology. He currently works for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
Head Women's Coach Wayne Stacy
Wayne Stacy has recently been hired by the Tri-State University athletic department to take over the position of head women’s track and field coach. Coach Stacy comes to TSU after serving as the assistant men’s and women’s track and field coach at Graceland University last year, with his primary responsibilities being the hurdlers and throwers.
Prior to coaching at Graceland, Coach Stacy served as the head men’s and women’s track and field coach at Simpson College. While at Simpson, he served as meet director for four invitational meets, including the Simpson Twilight that featured over 1,500 athletes.
Stacy is familiar with the tri-state area after serving as the head men’s and women’s track and field coach and cross country coach at Defiance College from 1999-2004. Under Stacy’s guidance, Defiance captured three Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) titles. He was honored as the HCAC Coach of the Year for women’s track on two occasions and for women’s cross country once.
Coach Stacy received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with minors in history and political science from Wilmington College. While at Wilmington, he was an NAIA All-American in football and an NAIA national track qualifier in the decathlon, discus, and 55m/60-yard dash. He received his master’s degree in education from Defiance College in 2003.
Assistant Coach Fred Gruber
Fred Gruber enters his seventh season as the assistant coach for the TSU track & field team. Coach Gruber’s primary responsibility is coaching the pole vaulters.
Gruber brings over 25 years of coaching track & field to TSU. He spent 20 years as the pole vault coach at Defiance High School, along with serving as the head cross country coach for 15 years.
Coach Gruber also has a strong history of officiating track & field meets with 15 years of USATF National Certification. His resume includes officiating the National USATF Junior Olympic meet three times, the Mid-American Conference Indoor meet three times, and the Division III National Indoor meet.
He has also officiated Big Ten and Mid-American Conference Indoor meets,
