04.26 / Women’s Golf Third in MIAA Playoffs
The Tri-State University women’s golf team finished third in the second and third rounds of the MIAA automatic qualifier. TSU shot a team score of 365 in round two and 353 in round three to finish third on both days. Saint Mary’s College took the top team spots with scores of 347 and 342.
Olivet College earned the MIAA automatic birth to the NCAA tournament with second place finishes. The Comets completed the qualifying rounds with a team score of 1012 to finish ahead of second place Saint Mary’s with a score of 1026.
Allison Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) was the only Thunder to shoot in the 80’s in Friday’s round. Rodino tied for third with a round of 87. Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) tied for 16th with a score of 91.
Saturday’s scores were better for the Thunder with four players shooting in the 80’s. Erin Walkotten (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) led the way for TSU with a score of 87 and tied for seventh overall. Becca Miller (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) shot an 88 and tied for ninth overall. Makohn and Rodino shot rounds of 89 and tied for 11th.
04.20 / Lady Thunder Swings to a 3rd Place Finish in Golf Invitational
Four of the five-member team of the Lady Thunder golf team placed in the top 20 of the match on Sunday to post a team score of 358. University of Indianapolis posted a first place finish with a score of 314. The host team, Franklin College scored 352, just edging out Tri-State by six strokes.
The lone Thunder senior, Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson), placed 5th with scores of 38-43, combining for 81 on the day. Placing second on the team and 14th overall, Allison Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) scored a 41-50 for 91, just one stroke ahead of Thunder freshmen Katlyn Pero (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) who had 48-44 for 92 who placed 16th overall. Junior Erin Walkotten (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) had a 43-51 for 94, again just one stroke ahead of teammate, sophomore Becca Miller (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) who placed 45-50 for 95 on the day.
Finishing behind the Thunder in 4th place was Millikin University who finished 11 strokes behind the Thunder with a team score 369, Urbana University in 5th with a score of 379, Manchester College with 381, Rose-Hulman Institute with 392, and Anderson University with a 435, finishing 8th. The Lady Thunder golf team returns to their spring schedule this Friday with the MIAA Playoff Round #2 at the Medalist Golf Course in Marshall, Michigan.
04.09 / TSU Hosted First Round of MIAA AQ Match
The Tri-State University women’s golf team hosted the first round of the MIAA AQ at Zollner Golf Course. League champion Olivet continued their strong play with a first place finish with a team score of 319. Saint Mary’s finished second at 337, followed by TSU at 342.
Jessica Vanderklok (Scotts, Mich./Vicksburg) shot the low round for TSU at 83 and placed sixth overall. Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) tied for eighth place at 85. Allison Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) rounded out the top ten with a score of 86.
Olivet took the top three individual spots on their way to a first place team finish. Megan Rimmel was medalist with a round of 74.
04.05 / TSU Women’s Golf Hosts TSU Spring Invitational
The Tri-State University women’s golf team hosted the TSU Spring Invitational at Brookwood Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. Bethel College shot a team score of 317 to take the top team honors. TSU finished sixth out of 11 schools with a score of 362.
Becca Miller (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) paced the way for TSU with a round of 89 which tied her for 20th overall. Jessica Vanderklok (Scotts, Mich./Scotts), Allison Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central), Katlyn Pero (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard), and Erin Walkotten (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) all tied for 29th with a score of 91.
Brooke Gilbert from Bethel was medalist with a round of 75.
03.10 / Women’s Golf Opens Spring Play in Orlando, Fla.
The Tri-State University women’s golf team started their spring season with a trip to Orlando, Fla, to compete in the Grand Valley State Invitational. TSU placed sixth as a team in the two-day event with a score of 707. Host Grand Valley was the top team with a score of 602, followed by University of Detroit Mercy at 612.
Jessica Vanderklok (Scotts, Mich./Vicksburg) shot the low rounds for TSU with an 88 and 84. Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) finished with a two-day total of 176 with rounds of 90 and 86. Becca Miller (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) followed closely with a two-day total of 177.
10.08 / Four TSU Women’s Golfers Honored by MIAA
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association recently announced the women’s golf all-conference honorees for 2007. Tri-State University completed the fall season with a second place finish in the MIAA and had four players named to the All-MIAA Second Team. Olivet won their second consecutive league title by taking first in all three conference jamborees and the MIAA Championship.
Junior Allison Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central), sophomore Becca Miller (Logansport, Ind./Logansport), senior Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson), and sophomore Jessica Vanderklok (Scotts, Mich./Vicksburg) were named to the second team.
Rodino and Miller paced the way for the Thunder with an average of 84.8 and tied for the eighth lowest average round in the conference. Rodino shot her low round of 83 in three of the five conference rounds and had her best finish of fourth at the jamboree hosted by Kalamazoo College.
Miller shot a low season round of 82 and placed second at the opening jamboree of the season. Miller’s season was highlighted by a hole-in-one shot at Bucks Run Golf Course. Miller stuck the par 3, 112 yard, hole number 17 for her first career hole-in-one.
Makohn shot a season average of 86.6 strokes per round. Makohn saved her best for last with her low round of the season on the final day of the championship. Makohn shot an 83 and tied for third in the tournament.
Like Makohn, Vanderklok made a push at the end of the season for all-conference honors. Vanderklok shot a season-low round of 81 in the final round of the tournament.
Katie O’Brien from Saint Mary’s was the conference medalist with an average of 81.2 strokes per round.
The MIAA determines league honors by eliminating the highest score of the five league rounds for each player.
10.06 / TSU Women’s Golf Second in MIAA Championship
The Tri-State University women’s golf team finished the fall season with a second place finish at the two-day MIAA Championship. The Thunder was very consistent with a day one round of 338 and a day two total of 339. Olivet took their third first place MIAA finish of the season with rounds of 341 and 324.
Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) and Jessica Vanderklok (Scotts, Mich./Vicksburg) tied for third overall with totals of 168. Makohn shot a day one score of 85 and finished with a round of 83. Vanderklok finished day one with a score of 87 and improved with a day two score of 81. Allison Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) tied for sixth with a two-day score of 169.
09.25 / Miller Shoots Hole-In-One at MIAA Jamboree
Tri-State University sophomore Becca Miller (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) shot her first career hole-in-one at the MIAA Jamboree held at Bucks Run Golf Course. Miller stuck the par 3, 112 yard hole number 17. Miller finished the round with an 86 and tied for 10th place overall.
As a team, TSU finished third with a score of 349. Olivet extended their conference lead with their third consecutive first place finish with a score of 324. Hope followed at 345.
Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) and Jessica Vanderklok (Scotts, Mich./Vicksburg) tied for 12th with rounds of 87. Julie Hoogerhyde from Hope College was medalist with a round of 74.
09.22 / TSU Women’s Golf Third at Olivet Fall Invitational
The Tri-State University women’s golf team finished third out of 11 teams at the two-day Olivet Fall Invitational. TSU shot a round of 348 on day one and improved with a 339 on day two for their third place finish. Ferris State University shot the low team round at 614, followed by Olivet College at 662.
Allison Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) paced the way for TSU with a two-day total of 167 and tied for 11th. Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) and Becca Miller (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) tied for 15th with scores of 173.
Ferris State took the top four spots on their way to the top team finish. Raquel Hansen was medalist with a score of 152.
09.18 / Makohn Fifth at USF Cougar Invitational
Tri-State University’s Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) tied for fifth at the two-day USF Cougar Invitational. Makohn was steady with a round of 86 on day one and a round of 84 on day two. As a team, the Thunder finished third with a total of 692. Host Saint Francis placed first as a team with a score of 667.
Jessica Vanderklok (Scotts, Mich./Vicksburg) placed seventh with a two-day total of 172. Alliosn Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) tied for ninth with a score of 177. Angela Gauck from Marian College was medalist with a score of 158 and shot a round of 76 on day two.
09.11 / MIAA Women’s Golf Jamboree Held at Zollner Golf Course
The second MIAA Jamboree of the season was hosted by Tri-State at Zollner Golf Course. TSU remained in third position with a third place finish, following Olivet in first and Saint Mary’s in second.
TSU had a tight team score of 338. Allison Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) led the way with a round of 83. Becca Miller (Logansport, Ind./Logansport), Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson), and Katlyn Pero (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) followed right behind with rounds of 84, 85, and 86 respectively.
Katie O’Brien from Saint Mary’s was medalist with a score of 78. Olivet beat out Saint Mary’s for the top team honor by four strokes with a total of 329.
09.08 / TSU Women’s Golf Opens MIAA Season With Third Place Finish
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opened the women’s golf season with the first jamboree hosted by Kalamazoo College. Tri-State University took third in the event with a team score of 347. Olivet started the season right where they left off last season with a score of 335 to take the top team honors. Saint Mary’s College was second with a 345.
Becca Miller (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) started the conference season with a third place finish and a round of 82. Allison Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) followed with an 83 and tied for fourth. Jessica Vanderklok (Scotts, Mich./Vicksburg) tied for 20th with a round of 89.
09.04 / Women’s Golf Ends Weekend in Laker Fall Classic
Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) led the TSU women’s golf team at the two-day Laker Fall Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University. Makohn shot a round of 85 on day one and an 81 on day two to tie for 43rd. Jessica Vanderklok (Scotts, Mich./Vicksburg) shot rounds of 91 and 83 to finish with a two-day total of 174.
As a team Tri-State placed 14th out of 17 schools with a total score of 703. Host Grand Valley had the low score with a 608. Simone DeSouza from California University-PA was medalist with two rounds of 73.

TSU Women’s Golf Competes in Ferris State Bulldog Invitational
The Tri-State University women's golf team team took 12th in the 18 team Ferris State Bulldog Invitational. TSU shot a two day total of 693. Ferris State had the top team score with a 616. Jacqueline Benscoter of Ferris took medalist honors with a two-day total of 144.
Brittny Makohn tied for 48th with rounds of 82 and 87. Allison Rodino shot a two-day total of 175. Jessica Vanderklok and Becca Miller followed with totals of 177 and 179. Katlyn Pero rounded out TSU's scoring with a 182.
08.25 / TSU Women’s Golf Opens Season with TSU Fall Invitational
The Tri-State University women’s golf team kicked-off the 2007 season by hosting the TSU Fall Invitational at Zollner Golf Course. Seven schools participated in the event and battled the rain-soaked course throughout the day. Ball State University took the top honors with a team score of 315.
Host TSU took the fifth spot with a score of 356. Allison Rodino (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) led the Thunder at 17th with a round of 87. Becca Miller (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) and Brittny Makohn (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) tied for 22nd with a score of 89.
Brittany Kelly and Amy Roberts of Ball State both shot a 77 on the day for the low score. Kelly won a two-hole play-off to earn medalist.
The TSU women’s golf team will return to action next weekend as they travel to compete in the Ferris State Invitational.
