04.24 / Women’s Lacrosse Can’t Catch Up to Adrian’s First Half Run

The Thunder women’s lacrosse team came out firing, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs defeated Tri-State 11-6 on the Adrian College campus in Adrian, Michigan. Brittany Witkiewicz (Orland Hills, Ill./Victor S. Andrews) got the Thunder on the board first at 26:23 left in the first half. Adrian came back and then scored eight straight goals before Kayla Grieser (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) got her first tally of the night at 4:41 left in the half.

Tri-State continued to have possession of the ball off of the draw, controlling it for the last few minutes of the half, leading to the first career goal by Alison Bonham (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) at 1:15 left in the half. The Thunder would go into the break trailing the Bulldogs 8-3, as the Bulldogs just edged out the Thunder in shots 15-14, and were dead even on ground balls at nine apiece.

Adrian came out shooting the second half, but the Thunder defense shut them down to only 3 goals, while allowing the Thunder offense to grab 3 of their own. Grieser scored two unassisted goals, her 2nd and 3rd tallies of the game, at 22:09 and 21:27 left in the game, respectively. The Bulldogs would only get one more goal, at 16:51 left in the game, and were shut out for the remaining 15 minutes of play, but the Thunder couldn’t capitalize. Despite being double teamed the whole night, Grieser scored one more from the Bulldogs, at 2:45 left in the game, off of a free-position shot, making it 11-6 in favor of Adrian.

Genice Addis (Cromwell, Ind./West Noble) made 11 saves on the night while allowing 11 goals. Grieser led all scorers with four goals and now has 20 on the season for the Thunder.
