11.09 / Havenaar Leads Women’s Soccer with All-MIAA Second Team Honors

Tri-State University senior forward Jackie Havenaar (Plainwell, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) was selected as a member of the All-MIAA second team. Despite a final record of 0-15-2 overall and 0-8 in MIAA play, Havenaar finished 15th in the MIAA in scoring with seven points. Havenaar was the primary offensive threat for the Thunder with six of the teams 10 goals.

Albion College’s Caitlin Bowman was named the league’s Most Valuable Player after leading the Britons to the championship in the conference tournament and Albion placed four athletes on the first team. The remaining members of the first team were split between three apiece from Calvin, Hope, and Kalamazoo.

The goalkeeping duties for the Thunder was primarily split between freshmen Rebecca Wolfe (Fowler, Ind./Benton Central) and Megan Zieles (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian). Wolfe allowed 28 goals and picked up 80 saves in 13 games played. Zieles gave up 59 goals and had 131 saves in 13 appearances.

10.24 / TSU Women’s Soccer Ends Season at Kalamazoo College

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team ended their season with a 9-0 loss at Kalamazoo College. The Hornets jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the third minute and held a 6-0 lead at halftime. TSU was held without a shot-on-goal and allowed 23 by the Hornets.

TSU concludes their season with a record of 0-15-2 overall and 0-8 in the MIAA. Kalamazoo ended their regular season with a 10-4-2 record and secured a second place finish in the MIAA with a record of 5-2-1.

10.19 / TSU Women’s Soccer Falls to Albion College

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team fell to Albion College 9-1 in MIAA action. Albion took the lead early with a goal in the opening 30 seconds of the game. The Britons added five more goals in the first half.

Megan Zieles (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) scored an unassisted goal for the Thunder. Rebecca Wolfe (Fowler, Ind./Benton Central) had 10 saves in the goal for the Thunder in 47:51.

Tri-State falls to 0-14-2 and 0-7 in the MIAA. Albion improves to 11-2-2 overall and 5-1-1 in conference action.

10.16 / Havenaar Leads Thunder in Loss to Saint Mary’s

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team fell to Saint Mary’s College 8-2 in MIAA action. Saint Mary’s took an early 3-0 lead before Jackie Havenaar (Plainwell, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) put TSU on the board with a score off a penalty kick.

Saint Mary’s added their fourth goal of the half at the 34:06 mark. Amy Ramiller (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich) scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Havenaar at 34:56 to bring the halftime score to 4-2.

The Belles added four goals in the second half and held the Thunder scoreless to take an 8-2 win. Saint Mary’s improves their season record to 7-3-4 and 3-2-2 in conference play. The Thunder fall to 0-13-2 overall and 0-6 in the MIAA.  

10.13 / TSU Women’s Soccer Shut Out by Olivet College

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team was defeated by Olivet College 3-0 in MIAA action. The Comets scored early to take a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute and added another goal at the 25:31 mark to take a 2-0 halftime lead.

Megan Zieles (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) had 10 saves in the net for TSU.

TSU drops their season record to 0-12-2 overall and 0-5 in the MIAA. Olivet improves to 6-7-2 on the season and 1-4-1 in conference play.

10.10 / TSU Women’s Soccer Loses Halftime Lead

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team held a 1-0 halftime lead but could not hold on as they fell to Defiance College 4-2 in non-conference action. TSU held a 1-0 halftime lead despite being outshot 12-6 in the first half. Megan Zieles (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) had eight saves in the first half.

Jackie Havenaar (Plainwell, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead of the game with an unassisted goal at 28:27. The Beavers tied the game in the 51st minute and took the lead for good in the 60th minute off a penalty kick. TSU wrapped up the day’s scoring in the final three seconds with a goal from Brittany Covault (Allegan, Mich./Allegan).

Zieles concluded the game with 15 saves and three goals allowed.

10.06 / TSU Women’s Soccer Falls to Alma College

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team suffered an 8-0 loss at the hands of MIAA rival Alma College. The Scots held a 4-0 lead at the break and added four more goals in the second period. Twelve different Alma players contributed to the scoring with Jessica Swan leading the way with two goals.

The Thunder remain winless at 0-10-2 and 0-4 in conference play. Alma is now 7-4-1 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA. TSU will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Defiance College to compete in non-conference action.

10.02 / TSU Women’s Soccer Team Defeated by Hope College

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team suffered a 6-1 loss at the hands of Hope College. The Flying Dutch took control of the game with a 30-3 advantage in shots-on-goal. TSU fell behind early as Hope took a 1-0 lead at the 14 minute mark. Hope extended their lead to 5-0 at halftime.

Hope started the second half the way they ended the first with a goal three minutes in to take a commanding 6-0 lead. TSU avoided the shutout with an Amy Ramiller (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich) pass that was headed in by Jackie Havenaar (Plainwell, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian).

09.29 / Adrian Shuts Out TSU in MIAA Women’s Soccer

The Tri-State University women’ soccer team was defeated 4-0 by Adrian College in MIAA action. TSU fell behind early as Adrian scored back-to-back goals in the third and fifth minute of the game.

The Bulldogs held a 3-0 lead at the break after an Adrian score off a penalty kick at the 17:27 minute mark.  Adrian’s Lindsay Chitwood scored her third goal of the game in the 57th minute to make the final score 4-0.

The Thunder drop their season record to 0-8-2 and 0-2 in the MIAA. Adrian improves to 4-6-1 overall and evens their conference record at 1-1.

09.25 / Havenaar’s Goal Leads TSU to Tie with Bluffton

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team fought to a 1-1 double overtime tie against Bluffton University. The Beavers could not escape with the victory despite holding a 15-2 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 13-2 lead in corner kicks.

TSU had to come from behind after trailing 1-0 at the break. Jackie Havenaar (Plainwell, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) tied the game in the 52nd minute with an unassisted goal. The Thunder had a shot at the victory in the second overtime as a Havenaar shot went just wide as time expired.

Megan Zieles (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) controlled the goal for the Thunder and had 14 saves in the game.

09.22 / TSU Women’s Soccer Handed Tough Loss

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team fell to Calvin College 13-1. Calvin dominated the offense with a 34-1 shot-on-goal advantage. Calvin scored early and often as they put their first goal on the board in the 14th minute and held a 6-0 lead at halftime. The Knights continued their scoring with a goal in the opening three minutes of the second half.

TSU broke the shut out with a Jackie Havenaar (Plainwell, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) unassisted goal at the 58:54 mark.

The Thunder drop their season record to 0-7-1 and open MIAA play at 0-1. Calvin improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in conference action. TSU will return to the field on Tuesday when they travel to Bluffton University for a non-conference contest.

09.17 / TSU Women’s Soccer Defeated by Concordia

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team fell to visiting Concordia 5-0. TSU gave up four goals in the first half, including two within a minute of each other. Concordia held a 22-8 shot advantage over the Thunder.

TSU drops their season record to 0-6-1. Concordia improves to .500 with the win at 3-3. TSU will travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. on Saturday to open MIAA play against Calvin College.

09.15 / TSU Women’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Game

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team fell to Spalding University 1-0. Despite a 12-3 shots-on-goal advantage, TSU could not find the back of the net. Spalding took the lead off an own goal in the 30th minute of the game.

TSU drops their season record to 0-5-1 overall. Spalding picks up their first win and improves to 1-4. TSU will return to action at home on Monday against Concordia University.

09.12 / TSU Women’s Soccer Battles to a 1-1 Tie with Franklin

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team held a 1-0 lead at the break but could not hang on for their first victory of the season. Franklin tied the game at 1 in the 67th minute and both teams battled through two overtime periods without a score.

TSU took control of the possessions with a 15-4 advantage in shots-on-goal, including a 4-0 advantage in the overtime perionds. Kara Hershberger (Nappanee, Ind./Northwood) scored her first goal of the season at the 15:43 mark to put TSU on the board first. Rebecca Wolfe (Fowler, Ind./Benton Central) had three saves in the net for TSU.

TSU is now 0-4-1 on the season, while Franklin is 0-3-1. Tri-State will return to action at home on Saturday against Spalding University at 1 p.m.

09.08 / TSU Women’s Soccer Blanked by Hiram

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team was defeated 4-0 by Hiram College. Hiram took an early lead with a goal in the sixth minute and held a 2-0 lead at the break after scoring in the 15th minute. Hiram scored two insurance goals in the second half to seal the 4-0 victory.

Rebecca Wolfe (Fowler, Ind./Benton Central) had 12 saves in goal for TSU on 18 shots-on-goal. The Terriers held an 18-4 shots-on-goal advantage and an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.

TSU drops their season record to 0-4. Hiram improves to 2-1 on the season. 

09.04 / TSU Women’s Soccer Drops Third Game Of The Season

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team dropped their season record to 0-3 with a 10-0 loss to Walsh University. Walsh had a 19-4 shots-on-goal advantage.

TSU got behind early as Walsh scored their first goal at the 3:50 mark in the first half. Walsh added three more goals to have a 4-0 lead at the half.

The Thunder will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Hiram, Ohio to take on Hiram College. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.

09.01 / TSU Women’s Soccer Defeated by Manchester

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team was defeated 7-1 by Manchester College in the consolation round of the Jennifer L. Siersma Memorial Tournament. TSU falls to 0-2 on the season. Manchester picks up their first win at 1-1.

Manchester held a 2-0 lead at the intermission ban a 4-0 lead before the Thunder got on the board. Brittany Covault  (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) set up Jackie Havenaar (Plainwell, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) for the Thunder’s goal at 75:53. Manchester held a 25-4 shot-on-goal advantage.

Marian College won the Jennifer L. Siersma Memorial Tournament with a 2-0 victory over Oberlin College. Mallory Burrows and Casey Williams each scored to lead the way for the Knights.

08.31 / TSU Women’s Soccer Hosts Jennifer L. Siersma Memorial Tournament

The Tri-State University women’s soccer team hosted day one of the four-team Jennifer L. Siersma Memorial Tournament. TSU was defeated by Marian College 8-0 in game one. Oberlin College took a 3-0 victory over Manchester in game two. The Thunder will take on Manchester tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the consolation round. Marian and Oberlin will square off at 1 p.m. for the championship.

Marian jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the break and solidified their victory with six goals in the second half. The Knights held a 31-3 shot advantage, including an 18-2 shot-on-goal advantage.
